White cloth spine with blue boards have some soiling and staining; front board decorated with Arts & Crafts style flower design and border stamped in white; spine head scuffed with small cloth loss at frayed heel; board corners worn. Gilt top edge; deckle fore-edge and bottom edge. Toning to endpapers; past bookseller's boldly written ink price notation at front pastedown's top left; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. Frontispiece b/w portrait of Stevenson by Sir William B. Richmond with tissue guard sheet; facsimile letter tipped-in between pages 32-33; Cheltenham [Press] colophon on unpaged recto opposite page 44.

Illustrated with full color plates with tissue guards. Rear of book has 4 pgs of Index, fold-out map in excellent condition, and 1 page of an ad of the works by Albert P Calvert.

Covers are edge worn, with frayed cloth at the corners and at the head and base of the spine. Original decorative light blue cloth binding with intricate gilt, brown and green designs on front and spine, gilt top edge, and untrimmed side and bottom edges. 322 pages. Overall condition is Very Good. The exterior boards are moderately age-toned and grazed (see pictures). The page edges and endpapers are age toned as well, but the interior text and plates are pretty bright. There is occasional scattered foxing to edge of some pages. Inside front is a penciled in dealer's mark, else pages are clean and unmarked. Binding is secure and strong. A nice, solid copy!

Lime green cloth with gilt embossed spine, a little dustiness but all very good and firm, half-title a little spotted. No inscriptions. Small octavo. *As we find today publishers sometimes made books appear to sell well by adding "edition numbers" larger than they actually were. This book does state on reverse of the title 1st printed Aug 1906 and then 2nd edition beneath dated 1906 also. However the 1910 catalogue would belie this statement as it being a fast seller.

The firm exhibited at the 1929 British Industries Fair in Birmingham. Some soiling and scuffs, mainly to the front board. Title label chipped along right edge. Slightly sprung. Inside, a previous owner has pasted in pictures and newspaper cuttings relating to Venice with dates from 1922-1929. These are on the first 5 blank endpapers and blank verso of the title page.
