This is Al-Hadithi's seminal work on the songs performed by semi-nomadic Bedouins along the Euphrates from Syria to Hilla, and from Mosul to Kut; scarce in commerce. Focusing on the stretch between Ana and Hit, Al-Hadithi presents the historical and social setting of the music, and studies selected songs collected over a 20-year period. Interestingly, Choobi songs are part of the author's own cultural background, and he produced this comprehensive work to document a tradition that is under threat due to the decline of camel caravans and the industrialization of rural areas.
