With seven portraits and a map as frontispiece, collated and complete. With a supplement to the rear containing a memoir of Hamilton Davey. In 1899, Davey met ornithologist A.O. Hume, who accompanied Davey on the tours of Cornwall and Devon prompting him to begin this major work. This publisher's complimentary copy contains a letter to the front pastedown, publisher Andrew Gill's signature, and two additional plates to the rear of Edgar Thurston and C.C. Vigurs, their signatures reproduced by photographic technician Tim Colburn from Bristol University. Since 1909, a rapid development in science and technology has revived great interest in the countryside, with this particular study listing a comprehensive list of species from Cornwall, some of which are now tragically extinct.
