Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Good +. First Edition. 364 pp and XXIX plates. Photographs, illustrations and maps. Bibliography and index. Ramon Adams: Six-Gun: 911. Adams wrote "The many mistakes this author has made about Bill the Kid and the Lincoln county war are covered in my Burns Under the Saddle (Item 7). Adams' book Burs Under the Saddle A Second Look at Books and Histories of the West contains Adams' reassessment of Hamlin's work - no. 167 pp 230-234. In part, Adams wrote: "The author is rather careless with names at times. such as "Purrington" for Purington, "Poague" for Pagues, "Al" Roberts for Andrew L. Roberts, "George" Chapman for Huston Chapman, "Tex Hudson" for William Hudgens", "ollinger" for Olinger, and so on. Some of the letters in the book, such as the one written by Mrs. McSween to the Kid, and the Kid's report on the killing of Morton and Baker, and his testimony at the Dudley inquiry all are, in my opinion, pur fiction. The book is filled with conversation that never took place, does not ring true, and therefore must be considered fiction." Despite the questions as to authentic history, it is well written and an interesting story of Billy the Kid. Iit is a book that deserves a home with anyone who collects on Billy the Kid.
