Die Autoren geben zu Beginn einen Überblick über Rheumakrankeiten allgemein und wo der MB einzuordnen ist, dann beschreiben sie den MB sehr ausführlich (Vorkommen, Häufigkeit, Wirkort im Körper, Veränderungen, Geschichte der Entdeckung). Besonders gut gefallen hat mir das Kapitel über mögliche Ursachen der Krankheitdie Möglichkeit der Vererbung wird sehr anschaulich erklärt (HLA-B27 Faktor, der nicht alleine als Erkennungsmerkmal dienen kann). Als nächstes geht's um die KrankheitFrühstadium, wie entdeckt der Arzt sie (Diagnose Methoden, Fehldiagnose, was zu beachten ist). Dann das KapitelWie geht es weiter? beschreibt das Vollbild von MB, Verlauf bei Frauen + Kindern, Nebenerkrankungen (Augenentzündung, Herz), verwandte Erkrankungen, Nebenwirkungen von Behandlungsmethoden, Prognose des Verlaufs. Das interessantestes Kapitel dürfte wohl die Behandlung der Krankheit sein. Heilbar ist sie nicht, aber die Symptome können behandelt werden und eine Verschlechterung kann gestoppt werden. Die Autoren schreiben, daß der Patient selbst sehr große Eigeninitiative zeigen muß und das die beste Behandlung die aktive Bewegungstherapie ist. Daher befassen sich die Autoren vorrangig mit der Beschreibung von gymnastischen Übungen (mit bebilderten Übungen im Anhang), Körperhaltung (beim schlafen, sitzen, autofahren). Auch physikalisch-balneologische Maßnahmen werden aufgeführt (Kälte-, Wärmetherapie, Massage, Elektrotherapie, ) und auch physische Aspekte + Ernährung (aber nur kurz). Leider kommt die medikamentöse Behandlung zu kurz. Es wird nur gesagt, das MB Patienten Antirheumatika zu sich nehmen müssen (gegen die Entzündungen und Schmerzen) und das der behandelnde Arzt Art und Dosierung des Mittels bestimmen muß. Ich hätte mir gewünscht, daß solche Medikament namentlich aufgeführt werden, mit einer Beschreibung der Wirkung + Nebenwirkung. Und vor allem hätte ich gerne gewußt, ob es neue Mittel gibt mit weniger Nebenwirkungen, da manche Antirheumatika doch starke Nebenwirkungen haben. Gar nicht gefallen hat mir der kurze Abschnitt über alternative Heilmethoden (wie Homöopathie, Naturheilmittel, Bachblüten, Akupunktur, ). Die Autoren schreiben, daß es keinen Beweis dafür gibt, daß diese alternative Heilmethoden bei MB eine langandauernde Besserung oder gar Heilung erzielen können". Sie sehen in alternativen Heilmethoden nur eine Zusatzbehandlung, die physikalische Schulmedizin sei die bessere Behandlung. Physikalische Behandlung ist wohl schon angebracht, aber die alternativen Heilmethoden beinhalten ein hohes Heilpotential, daß viel zu oft mißachtet wird. Von einem MB Patienten habe ich gehört, daß Homöopathie ihm weit besser geholfen hat als Antirheumatika, vor allem ohne die schlimmen Nebenwirkungen. Aber nicht desto trotz ist das Buch vor allem für neue Patienten eine gute Einführung in die Thematik der Krankheit. Gut gefallen haben mir die vielen Abbildungen und die knappen, prägnanten Zusammenfassungen des Inhalts nach jedem Kapitel. Med. und sonstigen Fachbegriffe werden ausführlich noch auf der gleichen Seite erklärt (aber manchmal ist die Ausführlichkeit etwas übertrieben, Begriffe wie akut dürfte die Mehrzahl der Leser doch kennen). Und im Anhang finden sich Kontakt-Adressen, Literaturtips + ein Lexikon der Fachbegriffe.
