Reliure strictement de l'époque plein veau brun glacé modelé à froid sur le premier plat (bord gauche et bord supérieur orné de vagues et frises grecques) avec nom de l'auteur et titre calligraphiés et modelés en relief (premier plat), grande fleur de lys mosaïquée en nacre véritable (contours modelés à froid). Le dos de la reliure porte le nom de l'auteur et le titre poussé à froid, dos à quatre faux nerfs, encadrement intérieur des plats d'une frise à froid, doublures de moire irisée, montage sur charnière, non rogné, couverture conservée (reliure signée HANS ASPER). Reliure d'art habillement exécutée par le relieur genevois Hans Asper (1855-1911). Le dos et les mors sont frottés. Petite marque de choc en haut du premier plat (proche de la coupe). La reliure reste solide. Intérieur frais. Rousseur sur la tranche. Edition originale. Tirage de luxe à 200 exemplaires sur papier de Hollande (notre exemplaire porte le n°123 au composteur). Première édition collective des uvres de ce poète suisse mort de maladie à l'âge de 25 ans à peine. Très beau recueil de poésies élégiaques et intérieures de cet auteur prometteur enlevé trop tôt à ce monde. La présentation faite par Edouard Rod donne sa biographie sensible. Aloys Blondel (1883-1908) étudia à Londres et à Paris et fut un auteur précoce et un érudit. Il recevait dans sa demeure du Grand-Lancy des notoriétés de France et de Suisse. Sur le petit Aloys, François Coppée écrivit un sonnet émouvant. Les poésies recueillies ici sont autant de gémissements de son âme sensible. L'illustration du volume a été confiée à Carlos Schwabe (1866-1926) et a été exécutée en 1908. L'artiste était probablement proche de l'auteur et d'Edouard Rod son compatriote. "C'est un monument de beauté qu'ont élevé au jeune poète les mains pieuses de ceux qu'il aima tant. Les nobles figures voilées de deuil qu'a dessinées Carlos Schwab, le fin et mélancolique portrait qu'il a tracé du poète, les simples fleurs des champs en grisailles délicates, dont il a voulu escorter chacun de ces poèmes [.]" (Semaine littéraire, 1909) Il faut voir dans ce livre hommage un émouvant album amicorum (éditeur, artiste, relieur). Notre exemplaire est remarquable par la reliure symboliste qui le recouvre. Venus de Zurich, les frères Hans et Jacques Asper s'installent à Genève vers 1883 ; à partir de 1897, Hans Asper est seul à tenir l'atelier, jusqu'à son décès en 1912. Cette maison fut rapidement la maison de reliure d'art la plus réputée de Genève. Les reliures signées de ce nom et présentant un riche décor artistique, comme c'est le cas ici, sont aujourd'hui très recherchées. Bel exemplaire du tirage de luxe sur Hollande et artistiquement relié par Hans Asper.
