THE TERN PRESS 1973-2012 We have been fortunate to obtain a collection of 25 titles from The Tern Press created by Nicholas and Mary Parry in 1973. Looking through the books you come to appreciate the love and care that Nicholas and Mary had for the craft of creating books as works of individual art. These slim volumes with their variety of illustrations, print types and use of different materials for binding make for truly individual works of art. Never more than 200 copies, often under a 100, these beautiful books make an ideal present and with their very small print run deserve to join the Private Press classic publishers of previous years as fine examples of the craftsmanship of their time. Size: Quarto. Illustrator. Poetry.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Clare Leighton (illustrator). Limited Edition. Patterned brown paper to boards, with cream vellum on spine. Edges of boards are rubbed, with light 'show through' at corners. Vellum on spine is a little discoloured, but intact. Gilt lettering to spine is slightly fading, but is fully legible. Hand cut pages, with top edge gilt. Generally clean and tidy for it's age, with no inscriptions. A limited edition of 1500 copies, signed by the illustrator, Clare Leighton, on free page before the half title page. Stated 'First Edition with woodcuts'. 1500 copies were published in this limited edition, the first 1000 by Macmillan and Co., for sale in the UK, and the remaining 500 by Harper and Brothers, for sale in the USA. I believe that the UK issue was not numbered whilst the USA edition was numbered from 1001 to 1500. Delightfully illustrated with twelve 'tipped in' black and white plates taken from woodcuts created by Clare Leighton, as well as chapter head and tail illustrations. All illustrations in near perfect condition. An uncommon UK edition. Signed by Illustrator(s).
