In overall good used condition with minor signs of age, handling and storage - buff-coloured boards, with slightly rubbed colour on-lay to front panel, are rubbed to edges and tanned to spine. Internally clean. Binding tight and appears little read; no annotations or inscriptions; light tanning to rough-trimmed page-ends and endpapers but text and illustrations bright and clear throughout. A handsome production, with five full-page facsimiles of pages from the book, and three other illustrations (including duplicate of that on front wrap). Large plate of charcoal drawing, captioned 'A view of the facade of 16 & 17 Pall Mall as seen from the Athenaeum', laid down inside back wrap. The essay is divided into: Bibliographical Particulars; Literary History; Jean de Gallopes; The Bonaventure-Gallopes; The Bedford-Gallopes; The Laval-Gallopes; The Verad-Gallopes; John Lydgate; "The Life of our Lady"; Conclusions.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Printed French-fold on Japon paper; sewn into pictorial wrappers; cover-design, single full-page illustration and 35 decorations in the text, all printed in colours, all by Claud Lovat Fraser. Lacking the printed envelope, but otherwise a very good to fine copy. The first issue. Copies issued later were without the envelope and had the two preliminary blank leaves and corresponding two leaves at the end removed, reducing the number of decorations in the book to 33 by the omission of the one on p.25 and the printers' device on the reverse of the last leaf.

First edition. Publisher's brown paper pictorial wrappers. A very good copy. Colour wood-engravings by Fraser throughout.

Printed by George Pulman and his sons, at the Cranford Press St. Mary-Le-Bone 1925. Wrappers. PP.23 text on Japan paper recto only. Illustrated throughout with Lovat Fraser decorations, one full page as well as cover. Condition: slightest evidence of handling otherwise near fine. Bears pencil inscription 'Lovat Fraser' to lower front cover.
