ABOUT THE RECIPIENT OF THIS COPY ARTHUR WEIL: Arthur Weil wrote the biographies of Max Bielschowsky (pp. 168-171) and Hermann Oppenheim (pp. 343-346). He was a neuropathologist at the Institute of Neurology at Northwestern University Medical School when it was founded in 1928. He was the first President of the American Association of Neuropathologists (AANP) in 1933. He was on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology when it was founded in 1942. He was co-editor of the journal from 1953-1960 and then became editor until 1962. In 1959 Weil shared the The Award for Meritorious Contributions to Neuropathology, an award that Webb Haymaker received in 1970. In 1953 when Haymaker's book was published, Weil was in New York. The annual Weil Award for the Best Paper on Experimental Neuropathology was established in honor of Arthur Weil, and is awarded by the AANP.
