The purpose of the survey, which began in 1899, was to examine the occurrences of gold in the region and to meet the demands of the great influx of miners following the 1898 gold discovery. The book includes an account of practically every gold-producing creek in the peninsula up until 1905, including the discovery of new placers and new facts about the distribution and origin of the gold-bearing gravels. It has since been used to inform and guide mining efforts in the area and remains one of the foundational studies of the gold resources of Seward Peninsula. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
