Gebräuntes Rändchen (siehe Abb.) an der Stelle eines ehemaligem Passepartoutausschnitt, rückseitig umlaufendes braunes Papierband im Rand von alter Rahmung. Sehr gut erhaltenes Blatt. Heideck erhielt seine erste künstlerische Ausbildung in der Züricher Kunstschule von Johann Heinrich Meyer und Konrad Geßner. Ab 1801 besuchte er in München die Kriegsakademie, setzte gleichzeitig aber seine Kunststudien fort. 1805 trat er in die bayrische Armee ein und nahm an den Feldzügen von 1805, 1806 und 1809 gegen Österreich, Preußen und Tirol teil, war 1810-13 als Freiwilliger in Spanien und kämpfte in den Befreiungskriegen 1813. Er begleitete den bayrischen Kronprinzen und späteren König Ludwig I. nach England und war beim Wiener Kongress anwesend. 1826 beteiligte er sich als Philhellene am griechischen Unabhängigkeitskampf gegen das osmanische Reich. 1829 kehrte er nach München zurück und trat wieder in die Bayerische Armee ein. Seine Mußestunden gehörten jedoch nach wie vor der Malerei, selbst in Fresko versuchte er sich mit Erfolg. So ist u.a. das Viergespann am Wagen des Helios im Bilderzyklus der Münchner Glyptothek von seiner Hand. Die Erhebung des Prinzen Otto von Bayern auf den griechischen Thron führte ihn abermals nach Griechenland. Er wurde zum Mitglied der Regentschaft des griechischen Staats während der Minderjährigkeit König Ottos ernannt, wo er sich große Verdienste um die Organisation des griechischen Staats- und Militärwesens erwarb. Als der König volljährig wurde, kehrte er wieder nach Bayern zurück und war ab 1850 im Kriegsministerium tätig. "Da er wirklich nur Erlebtes malte, bieten seine zahlreichen Kriegsbilder aus Spanien und Griechenland eine sehr interessante Illustration zur Zeitgeschichte[.] auch im Genre und in der Landschaft hat er höchst Anerkennenswerthes mit großem Fleiße geleistet. So malte er blos in der Zeit von 1816?25 nahe an 70 Staffeleibilder mit Kriegsscenen und Gefechten, denen er beigewohnt, darunter auch Conversationsstücke und Landschaften, wobei auch die Architektur einen wesentlichen Theil bildet, ebenso wie Pferde und andere Thiere. In der Neuen Pinakothek befinden sich 6 Gemälde von seiner Hand. Viele andere sind durch Lithographie und Stich vervielfältigt, manches von ihm selbst auf Stein gezeichnet; auch führte H. in geistreicher Weise die Radirnadel[.]" (Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, Band 11, 1880, Seite 295 ff). Unter Alois Senefelder?s Oberaufsicht wurden dort hervorragende Erfolge auf dem noch relativ neuen Gebiet der Lithographie erzielt, woran auch Selb wesentlichen Anteil hatte. 1816 übernahm er die Leitung der Zeller?schen lithographischen Anstalt und arbeitete später an der Fortsetzung des von Strixner und Piloty begonnenen königlichen Galeriewerkes.
