Intorno al 1960 Antes ha scoperto il suo ??Kopffüßler?, una forma che interessava l'artista in numerose varianti e tecniche artistiche. Ha vinto diverse borse di studio e premi nel corso degli anni Sessanta, tra cui il Villa-Romana-Prize a Firenze nel 1962 e la borsa di studio di Villa Massimo a Roma nel 1963. Tre anni dopo, all'età di soli 29, Antes ha accettato una cattedra presso l'Akademie di Karlsruheche che ha mantenuto dal 1965 al 1971. Questa è stata seguita da un posto di professore anche a Karlsruhe che ha ricoperto dal 1967 al 1973, così come un anno alla Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste di Berlino. L'artista riprende l'insegnamento all'Akademie a Karlsruhe nel 1984 e continua ad insegnare lì per altri 16 anni. Dal 1990 Antes vive e lavora a Karlsruhe, Firenze e Berlino. La sua opera include non solo dipinti e grafica, ma anche sculture in spazi pubblici. Le sue opere sono esposte in tutto il mondo e sono rappresentati in tutte le più importanti collezioni tedesche: al Kunsthall di Amburgo, al Ludwig Museum di Colonia, alla Nationalgalerie di Berlino, e al Museo d'Arte Moderna. Ha sviluppato uno stile caratterizzato da archetipi primordiali, affiancati da influenze surrealiste. Book.
