Jahrestags des ,Anschlusses" veroffentlicht die Osterreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften eine umfassende Analyse ihrer Verstrickung im nationalsozialistischen Regime von 1938 bis 1945 und deren Auswirkungen auf die Nachkriegszeit. Neue Forschungsergebnisse bieten tiefgehende Einblicke in die personelle und institutionelle Struktur sowie die wissenschaftliche Ausrichtung der Akademie wahrend der NS-Zeit. Der ,Anschluss" im Marz 1938 stellte einen tiefgreifenden Einschnitt dar. Nach der Machtubernahme wurden Fuhrungspositionen mit Nationalsozialisten besetzt, wahrend Mitglieder und Mitarbeiter aufgrund politischer und ,rassischer" Grunde verfolgt und vertrieben wurden, viele starben in Konzentrationslagern. Wichtige Forschungseinrichtungen wie das Institut fur Radiumforschung und das Vivarium verloren ihre Schlusselkrafte, und bedeutende Forschungsprogramme wurden eingestellt. Die neue Fuhrung schrankte die Autonomie der Akademie ein und fuhrte Forschung im Sinne der NS-Ideologie durch. 1945 bedeutete fur die Akademie keine ,Stunde Null". Es gab sowohl Zasuren als auch Kontinuitaten in den Forschungseinrichtungen. Die Akademie zeigte sich ambivalent im Umgang mit dem Nationalsozialismus: In der ersten Nachkriegsphase wurde die Mitgliedschaft ehemaliger Nationalsozialisten ausgesetzt, doch wenige Jahre spater wurden fast alle ehemaligen NSDAP-Mitglieder, einschliesslich hochrangiger Funktionstrager, wieder au.
