Kurze Inhaltsangabe: Albert Röder und sein Freund Max Gröhl halten im geheimen - aus Liebhaberei - in der nahen Großstadt ein Rennpferd mit dem Namen "Schnucki". Kurz vor einem Rennen ist "Schnucki nicht in Form". Mehrere Telegramme gehen hin und her, wie z. B. "Schnucki hat sich gelegt" - "Schnucki eine Spritze geben!". In großen Sorgen hat Röder seine Schnucki aufgesucht. Er mußte aber sofort wieder zurückreisen. Von seiner Frau nach Grund und Einzelheiten der Reise befragt und ängstlich bemüht, ihr den wahren Sachverhalt zu verheimlichen, verstrickt er sich in lauter Lügen. Da treffen bei dem jungen Ehepaare unverhofft Alberts Schwiegereltern ein. Angela, die Schwiegermutter, die hinter Röders Lügen gekommen ist, entdeckte nun zu allem Unglück auch noch die Telegramme. Sofort vermutet sie, daß "Schnucki" Alberts Freundin ist, mit der er seine arglose Frau betrügt. Heinrich, Alberts Bürodiener, schnappt aus dem Gespräch zwischen Albert und Max zufällig das Wort "Schnucki" auf. Er findet diesen Namen so reizend und schön, daß er ihn sofort als Kosenamen für seine Frieda, Dienstmädchen bei Albert, wählt. Die aufs höchste empörte Schwiegermama gerät in ihrem Eifer, mit dem sie das Geheimnis um "Schnucki" zu lüften sucht, nun auf die falsche Fährte und verdächtigt die ahnungslose Frieda. Die Situationen werden immer heikler, und es kommt zu den heftigsten Szenen, bis endlich die telegraphische Nachricht eintrifft, daß "Schnucki das Rennen gemacht" hat.
