Drawing on data from the German Naval Observatory, the book analyzes the drift speeds of ocean currents based on wind speed and direction, identifying a previously unknown factor: latitude. The author finds that drift speed increases with proximity to the equator, and uses this and other findings to refine earlier formulas to better estimate the speed of wind-driven ocean currents.
