"Der Füsilier Michael Errulat, von der 9ten Compagnie des dritten Linien-Infantrie-Regiments, 37 Jahre alt, 2 Jahr gedient aus Czutschen, Amt Blumenberg in Ostpreussen, ist der Gegenstand der folgenden Beobachtung."…Heusinger Karl Friedrich Heusinger (eigentlich Johann Christian Friedrich Karl) (1792-1883) "berühmter Professor und Geheimer Medicinalrath zu Marburg, stammte aus einer alten Gelehrten - Familie und war zu Farnroda, einem Dorfe zwischen Eisenach und Ruhla, am 28. Februar 1792 geboren. Sein Onkel war der jung verstorbene angesehene Badearzt in Ruhla Johann Heinrich Christian Heusinger. 1809 bezog er die Universität Jena zum Studium der Medicin und Naturwissenschaften. Durch die Lectüre von BLUMENBACH'S Osteologie, von HERDER'S Ideen und v. HUMBOLDT'S Ansichten der Natur, insbesondere aber durch seinen Lehrer OKEN, durch den er die neuere naturwissenschaftliche und physiologische Literatur ziemlich vollständig kennen lernte, gewann H. schon als Student eine besondere Vorliebe für vergleichende Anatomie. 1812 zum Dr. mcd. promovirt, begab er sich zur Fortsetzung seiner Studien nach Göttingen, wo BLUMENBACH, HAUSMANN, STROMEYER, HIMLY, LANGENBECK seine Lehrer waren. Hier machte H. bereits die ersten grundlegenden Forschungen für seine späteren bedeutenden Arbeiten über den Bau der Milz. Im Befreiungskriege von 1813 trat er als Militärarzt in preussische Dienste und machte die Feldzüge in Deutschland, Holland und Frankreich mit, verweilte drei Jahre in Thionville, besuchte im Februar 1818 Paris und führte bis 1819 die Direction des Hospitals in Sedan. Dabei arbeitete er auch wissenschaftlich unausgesetzt fort, schrieb mehrere Abhandlungen für das RUST'sche Magazin und das MECKEL'sche Archiv und gab seine berühmte Schrift: "Ueber den Bau und die Verrichtungen der Milz, ein anatomisch-physiologischer Versuch" (Eisenach resp. Thionville 1817) heraus. Nach Göttingen zurückgekehrt, wurde H. Assistent an der Klinik von HIMLY. Auf Empfehlung BLUMENBACH'S erhielt er schon 1821 einen Ruf als Professor e. o. nach Jena und wurde 1824 an DÖLLINGER'S Stelle nach Würzburg als Professor der Anatomie und Physiologie berufen. Hier war er fünf Jahre lang thätig und las über Histologie, Anatomie, Zootomie, Physiologie, Anthropologie und pathologische Anatomie, bis er 1829 einem Rufe als Professor der praktischen Medicin und Klinik an BARTELS' Stelle nach Marburg folgte. An diesem Orte hat er vier Jahrzehnte lang als Arzt und akademischer Lehrer eine ruhmwürdige und segensreiche Wirksamkeit entfaltet bis zum Jahre 1867, wo er sein Amt niederlegte und sich in's Privatleben zurückzog. 1876 in den Adelstand erhoben, verlebte H. seinen Lebensabend in stiller Zurückgezogenheit und beschloss denselben als der Veteran aller deutschen Kliniker im Alter von 91 Jahren am 5. Mai 1883. - H. war ein Mann von ausserordentlich umfangreichem und tiefem Wissen. Neben seinem immens gelehrten Werke: "Grundriss der Encyklopädie und, Methodologie der Natur- und Heilkunde" (Eisenach 1839) beruht sein Verdienst um die Medicin wesentlich darin, die vergleichende Pathologie und die medicinische Geographie, resp. die geographische Nosologie und Pathologie als Wissenschaft begründet zu haben. Ueber die letzteren Disciplinen hat er Jahre Jang höchst umfangreiche und gelehrte Referate in CANSTATT'S Jahresberichten geliefert; seine Arbeiten auf diesem Gebiete gehören noch heute zu den ausgezeichnetsten Quellen und haben ihm seinerzeit die grösste Anerkennung verschafft. Die Zahl seiner Schriften ist sehr gross. Ausser den oben citirten führen wir an : Betrachtungen und Erfahrungen über die Entzündung und Vergrösserung der Milz" (Eisenach 1820) - "Nachträge zu den Betrachtungen etc." (Ebenda 1823) - "Commentatiti semiologica de variis somni vigiliarumque conditionibus morbosis" (Ebenda 1820) - "System der Histologie" (Ebenda 1822) .
