Edition originale. 1 vol. in-4 (29 x 23 cm), 46 pp., demi-cartonnage ivoire moderne, très petite trace de brûlure en marge de quelques feuillets, envoi autographe signé ; exemplaire en partie non coupé, en très bon état. Edition originale rare de la thèse de l'auteur, qui se révèle à la fois érudit et perspicace. Senac insiste sur l'étiologie (souvent alors rhumatismale) de ces affections, et montre l'importance de ne pas confondre la conséquence avec la cause. Certaines données apparaissent étonnement modernes. Senac a en particulier le mérite d'insister sur les altérations vasculaires, "qui souvent échappent à l'observation". Il précise qu'à l'autopsie, "on se borne ordinairement à examiner l'aorte, l'artère pulmonaire à son origine, et les grosses veines afférentes au coeur et ajoute : "dans bien des circonstances, ces vaisseaux ne présenteront aucune altération, et l'on trouvera des plaques d'épaississement disséminées dans les artères du volume d'une plume d'oie ou de corbeau, et même dans des artères de calibre inférieur." L'auteur était interne des hôpitaux. Il devint médecin à Vichy. Il continua à s'intéresser à la cardiologie et traduisit en français l'ouvrage de Stokes sur les maladies du coeur et de l'aorte, en 1864. Stokes est d'ailleurs cité plusieurs fois dans cette thèse.
