Index; contains a vast number of formulas, covering a wealth of information valuable to the pharmacist, for home/household use and for veterinary preparations and applications. A good deal of the information given is based upon knowlege & recommendations from various pharmacopoeias, the Electric Dispensatory, the National Formulary, and other authoritative works of the period. "The quantities of all formulas have been adapted to the usual needs of pharmacists." For example, there are over 60 pharmacetitical preparations given, incl. the following: abstracts; Acids; Balsam; Camphor; Chloroforms; Drops; Extracts; Honeys; Juices; Lotions; Ointments; Pastes; Pills; Salts; Spirits; Tinctures; Vinegars; Wines; etc. There are numerous household remedies, over 40 in number, including Bitters; Bunion cures; burns & scalds; cough & cold remedies; diarrhoea/dysentary; ear medicines; eczema; gout; hay-fever; itch remedies; ointment & salves; ringworm; throat afflictions; warts; etc. Under section dealing with Veterinary Preparations are included medicines & preparations for horses, cattle; sheep; swine; dogs & cats; chickens. Includied is an extensive section preparing perfumes, powders, colognes; tonics; mouth, head & bath preparations and an interesting soda water preparation, e.g. fruit juices; root beer; sodas; syrups; tonics; vinegars and the like. Also laid-in front fly-leaf pages is small 30+ pg. pamphlet titled "A Dose List of Drugs, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Prepared Especially For Reference In Dispensing." dated 1893. Also on pg. 111 is an attached/laid-in formula for "Lotion Calamine & Zinc Oxide." Additionally, on pg. 123, are 2 formulas (penned-in on top margin for Sippy Powder and Soda Bicarbonate. Maroon cloth boards & spine are quite good for their age, showing only a little edge and cloth wear. The covers & spine have one or two small, minor discoloration spots, else afford solid, good protection to interior pgs. of this old & interesting medical volume. Size: 6 1/4" x 9 1/4".
