First edition. 152pp. Original publisher's blind-stamped green cloth, lettered in gilt to spine. A trifle rubbed and marked, spine lightly sunned. Near contemporary inked gift inscription to head of title page. The sole edition of minor poet David Holt's (1828-1880) first published work, a collection of predominantly pastoral verse, the exception being the spirited six-stanza 'To the Anti-Slavery Association', a rousing panegyric praise of the societies abolitionist achievements. '- Their's was a bloodless conflict! o'er the wave Floated the joyous shout â" the exulting song, When they stretched forth the friendly hand to save, And from the tyrant's scourge to shield the tremb'ling slave!' Size: 8vo.
