As such, its function can be influenced by minor derangements of either the internal homeostasis or the external environment. In virtually all neurodegenerative conditions, the various pathogenic processes selectively affect certain groups of neurons, leaving others intact. The reasons for such selectivity are unknown, and theories proposed to explain them mostly rest on speculative ground. However, recent advances in neurobiology, particularly in the field of genetics, biochemistry, and pharmacology/toxicology, have shed light on the pathogenesis of several of these disorders. Dies ist, nebenbei gesagt, die einzige logische und legitime Anwendung des W ortes, weil es sich eben urn eine heilende Wirkung auf die Psyche handelt.
