paperback. Condition: Very Good. Arario Gallery, Cheonan-shi, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea [Published date: 1996]. Softcover, 64 pp; illustrated throughout with full-page color and black-and-white plates; bilingual text in English and Korean; 30 x 25 cm. First edition. In very good condition. White pictorial wraps with French flaps printed in black, featuring a detail of Howe's painted metal sculpture "Twister" on front cover. Light surface rubbing and faint handling marks; binding tight; interior clean and unmarked. Published in conjunction with the exhibition Brad Howe, held June 19-July 7, 1996, at Arario Gallery, Cheonan, Korea. Includes the artist's statement (May 1996), a foreword by Chang-il Kim, President of Arario Industry Inc., and an essay by Etan Boritzer, "Brad Howe: Causes." The text explores Howe's synthesis of geometric and biomorphic form, his use of color as both structural and psychological element, and his dialogue with post-Constructivist and Pop-inflected abstraction. Plates reproduce Howe's major works of the mid-1990s in vivid color, among them Twister, Minnesota, Nuvens, Bohemia, Cyber Rooster, and Corvo - sculptures in aluminum, stainless steel, and polyurethane distinguished by polished surfaces and exuberant chromatic patterns. Includes artist biography, solo and group exhibition history (1986-1996), selected corporate collections, and bibliography. Artist bio: Brad Howe (b. 1959 Riverside, CA) studied at Stanford University and the University of Sao Paulo and became known for his large-scale public and corporate commissions blending industrial fabrication with playful formalism. Includes a 5-page laid-in price sheet from BGH Gallery (Santa Monica) listing works by several artists, including Brad Howe, John Rose, and others.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine dj. First Edition. [book is flawless, with no discernible wear; jacket had some minor wear and very slight wrinkling along top and bottom edges, light surface wear and faint soiling]. (color photographs) INSCRIBED and SIGNED in the year of publication by the artist/sculptor on the second ffep. From the Introduction by Peter Frank: "Howe navigates a geometic abstraction descended directly from Picasso, Bracque, Kandinsky and Klee. He infuses it not just with life, but with liveliness to sustain that tradition as a living, viable discourse. Howe pushes the appearance of a utilitarian object as far as possible into the realm of 'pure' art." The book contains color photo illustrations of 185 examples of the artist's work, and includes essays by Antonio Argüelles, Matias Marcier, and Manolo Mestre. Also: a list of individual and selected group exhibitions that have featured his work; selected public and corporate collections containing his work; and a bibliography (without much detail). The text is in English, Spanish, and German. Limited to 2,000 copies. ****NOTE: Additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.
