Pages are unmarked and clean. Moderate fading and browning of text. Previous owner's name written with pen on top corner of first front-end page. It carries an all edges (top, bottom and fore) the universities' (Sarah Lawrence College) stamp. A crease along front cover page. Moderate edge wear and shelfwear. Book shows its age, but still a great work/study copy.

Dj is in a taped-in wrap, but does have edgewear with several tiny tears, light soiling & the inside back flap is heavily torn along edge. Book has light edgewear. Lightly bumped corners. Some soiling. Front endpge has been cut out. There is a childs sticker on the table of contents page. There are several pages that have penciled underlining on them. Well worn but is a good reading copy.

Eastman, of Santee Dakota, English and French ancestry, was trained in Western medicine. He was one of the most visible and prolific advocates for Native American rights in his era, and as a collaborator with the Boy Scouts he introduced much trail lore to white audiences.
