Margins somewhat worn & discoloured. ; 22 x 13.8 x 1.7 cms; 255 pages; Lu Hsun, also spelled Lu Xun (1881â"1936) , was a Chinese writer, essayist, and literary critic widely regarded as the father of modern Chinese literature. Trained in medicine in Japan, he turned to literature as a means of healing what he saw as the deeper ills of Chinese society. His short stories, such as those collected in A Call to Arms, use irony, satire, and psychological insight to expose social injustices, feudal values, and the inertia of traditional culture. Lu Hsun wrote in a clear, vernacular style that broke from classical Chinese, helping to shape modern literary Chinese. Though he never joined the Communist Party, his work was admired by revolutionaries and remains deeply influential in Chinaâs cultural and political life. His legacy is that of a fierce moral voice, unafraid to confront hypocrisy and advocate for change.
