Volume 2 reads From the Discovery of the Cape of Good Hope to the Establishment of the Mantchoo-Tarter Dynasty of China. Published by D. & J. Sadlier & Co. 348 pages. Dark brown linen cover with embossed design on cover and back, and gold foil writing on the spine with a library call number painted in at bottom 270 H. Inside the front cover is stamped St. Vincen t s Library Association Vol. 178) and a date marker (photographed). Evidence of cracking along the spine inside back cover and page 216-217 (photographed). Some rough edges on the cove. All other pages intact with slightly loose binding. No writing, no other damaged pages. Some evidence of age and use and mildew spotting on several front and back pages. Some sun discoloration on the spine. Please review the photos as they form an important part of the description. The current owner, anthropologist and writer Don Messerschmidt, PhD, is known for his research and writings on the Himalayas and related topics. He has published books and articles internationally since the 1960s when he first lived in Nepal as an American Peace Corps volunteer. He went on to enhance his understanding of Himalayan peoples and places as an independent researcher and on numerous consultancies. For over a half-century, he has been engaged in field studies, university professorships, and writing about the rich cultures of Bhutan, Nepal, North India, and Tibet. Along the way, he amassed an extensive library of Himalayan studies and has written several of his own, including two prize-winners. He has also been an editor for two regional magazines and has been called upon to review and pen chapters and forewords for Himalayan-oriented publications.
