Vintage reference photograph from the 1937 film, showing actor Sabu Dastagir (commonly known only by his given name, Sabu). With a mimeo label snipe affixed to the verso, along with the stamps of National Film Archive library. From the archive of film historian and author Joel Finler. Based on Rudyard Kipling's story "Toomai of the Elephants," which originally appeared in Kipling's 1895 collection "The Jungle Book." A young Indian boy helps guide his father and a government elephant hunter to the secret elephant camp in the jungle. A breakthrough role for Sabu, who would go on to work under exclusive contract for film mogul Alexander Korda in "The Thief of Bagdad" (1940), "Arabian Nights" (1942), and "The Jungle Book" (1942). Set in colonial India, shot on location in Gwynedd, Wales. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus overall.
