Einband lichtrandig, Randläsuren, Eigentumsvermerk, sonst sauber. - Aus dem Text: Es wäre dringend zu wünschen, dass einmal alle noch vorhandenen Reste dieses Dialektes, der als die Fortsetzung und als das Endstadium der Sprache Jesu das Interesse nicht nur der Sprachkundigen beansprucht, herausgegeben würden. Das ist nicht so utopisch, wie es wohl manchem erscheinen möchte. Denn diese Literatur ist wohl, wie schon Schulthess bemerkt hat, nie sehr umfangreich gewesen. Immerhin bietet das bisher bekannt gewordene Material eine ausreichend breite Basis, um einen Überblick über die Geschichte dieses Dialektes zu gewinnen. Die ältesten Texte stammen aus der Zeit, in der das Griechische die Sprache der Umgebung war. Es reihen sich die Texte aus der Zeit derHerrschaft des Arabischen an, in der die Sprache trotz der Aufnahme einzelner Ausdrücke ihren Charakter bewahrt hat. Schliesslich sehen wir die Sprache sich mühsam gegenüber dem Arabischen und z.T. auch dem Syrischen behaupten, um endlich diesen Einflüssen ganz zu unterliegen und zu erlöschen.!) Auch die hier gebotenen Textteile spiegeln diese Entwicklung wieder. Aus der ältesten Periode stammen die Evangelienstückchen unter I A und die Bruchstücke aus Ephräm und Cyrill von Jerusalem unter II bzw. III, aus der arabischen Zeit das Liturgiebruchstück mit Hymnen unter IV, aus dem Endstadium, in dem die Sprache von ihren Benützern noch kaum beherrscht wurde, die agendarischen Stücke unter V. Die Texte unter II bis V liefern Ergänzungen zu Grammatik und Lexikon des Dialektes, die unter V ausserdem eine Parallele und Ergänzung zu den von Black in seinem Rituale Melchitarum veröffentlichten Texten, insbesondere den griechischen, und können stellenweise zur Korrektur der letzteren Beiträge liefern.
