First edition, presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the recto of the second leaf: "Lawrence Underhill, as a memento of an association which I hope survives long after the temporary period this is written in. 24/8/1941. C. Clayton Hutton". In his foreword, the author thanks Underhill for his help in compiling this work. Octavo (190 x 130 mm). Contemporary presentation blue morocco, spine with raised bands, lettered and framed in gilt, decorative gilt tools in compartments, gilt ruling on covers and turn-ins, paired decorative tool on front cover, blue linen endpapers, edges sprinkled blue. Binding slightly rubbed and gently refurbished, more so to joints, faint scuffs, first flyleaf a touch soiled, also torn at foot with minor loss, webbing visible at rear inner hinge (before free endpaper), still sturdy. A very good copy.
