Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) was the founder of Roycroft, an Arts and Crafts community in East Aurora, New York, 1885. The organization called itself either The Roycrofters or The Roycroft Shops, and they printed, not only magazines, but also handsome, sometimes eccentric, books printed on handmade paper and bound finely. The group also operated a furniture shop, and a shop dedicated to producing modeled leather and hammered copper goods. The Roycroft Shops became a site for meetings and conventions of radicals, freethinkers, reformers, and suffragists. Hubbard, himself, became a popular lecturer at these meetings, and championed for socialist governments and free thinking. William Wallace Denslow (1856 1915) was an American illustrator and caricaturist remembered for his work in collaboration with author L. Frank Baum, especially his illustrations of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
