The author, known to professionals as one of the leading dealers of Oriental carpets in Europe, has written books and given courses to experts at the request of international organizations. Equally important, he loves his subject and conveys his excitement in this book. Following a general introduction that treats historical, ethnological, social, and religious aspects of carpet weaving, the development of the Anatolian carpet is discussed. A trip through two major Turkish carpet museums in Istanbul and Konya serves as a vehicle to show the carpets' history, beginning with the reign of the Seljuks and continuing through the centuries. The main portion of the book is devoted to descriptions of specially chosen examples, arranged by area of production.
