A substantial volume, measuring roughly 22.5 by 29cm. Comprising: approximately: 17 pages of titles, index and other preliminaries, then 169 pages which seem to be the minutes of the conference, identifying each speaker, and 54 related charts & documents to the rear, the majority of them folding. Bound together using two large brass butterfly fastenings, in black textured cloth covered card, lettered in gilt to the upper cover. The covers are quite rubbed, marked and creased, with the beginnings of splits at the hinges, the gilt is tarnished. The text block is age toned and slightly marked, some passages are highlighted in pencil, and there is minor damage to page edges, including a small chip to the fore-edge of the title page. An insight into early post-WW1 transatlantic business relations, at a meeting which took place on the 22nd, 23rd, & 24th April 1924 in New York, involving 22 high-ranking representatives from British, American and Canadian insurance companies. Discussing such matters as: the minutiae of reinsurance; developments in car-insurance; credit & financing to assist the "small man" in purchasing an automobile and by extension insurance; the use of cars by insurance Agents and how this risk should be insured; farm insurance; the increase in wages compared with the pre-WW1 period; and the necessity of increasing these wages still further to keep their staff happy due to the real cost of living outstripping the salary increases. There are no other obviously locatable surviving examples in public holdings, and should anybody wish to know what the greatest minds in insurance management were thinking a century ago, this is a rare opportunity to satisfy that curiosity. …
