Contact seller5-star sellerHardbound. Condition: Fine. Facsimile Edition. Description: This is a volume from the Notable Trials Library under the general editorship of Alan M Dershowitz who wrote a special introduction for this facsimile edition. This is a facsimile reprinting of a book published in 1946 by William Hodge & Company as part of the British Notable Trials series. Book design by Daniel B Bianchi and Selma Ordewer. From the publisher: ''On 3 September 1939 Great Britain and France declared war on Germany. Broadcasts of Nazi Germany's radio, the RRF, began that same month. As the war progressed, its English-language broadcasts became systematic and increasingly sophisticated, due in great part to William Joyce, an American citizen possessing a fraudently obtained British passport. Joyce's last broadcast from Hamburg was on 30 April 19454, the day Adolf and Evan Braun Hitler committed suicide. Joyce fled with his wife to Flensburg, near the Danish border. A month later, a British officer recognized his voice, and as Joyce reached for his forged identity papers, a second officer, fearing Joyce was drawing a weapon, shot and wounded him. In June, Joyce was returned to Britain and charged with high treason. The trial began 17 September 1945 at the Old Bailey. There was never any question of what Joyce had done. The questions centered on his citizenship and the letter of the law regarding treason.'' BINDNG/CONDITION: from a series with semi-uniform bindings -- quarter leather (leather at the spine); with gilt decorations; raised spine bands; all edges gilt; ribbon place marker; Fine condition. Marbled endpapers. 8vo (8.5 inches tall). 312 pages. …

Condition: New. 2004 N&M Press reprint (original pub 1921). SB. xx + 227pp with 2maps and 85 contemporary photos.Published Price £18 An apparently obscure sidebar to the Great War that has suddenly acquired topical resonance is the struggle against the Turkish Ottoman forces in Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). Then, even more than today, control of the country depended on keeping the twin great rivers of the Tigris and Euphrates open. This book narrates the work undertaken by the officers and men of the Inland Water Transport (IWT) assigned to deliver supplies to the large British army in Mesopotamia by water. So successful were they that, by the end of the war, the river system, backed up by railways, was taking nearly 3,000 tons a day in a fleet of 2,000 craft up to 500 miles upriver from the port of Basra - then as now the main British base in the region. As a result of this miracle of organisation, the enemy was driven from Kut to Baghdad to Mosul. If only it was like that today! Illustrated with maps, sketches and photos and seven appendices on the IWT's work. Book.…
