Folio (11.5 x 7 in). [*2]-7T2: 628 pp. Engraved frontispiece of Charles I, title-page with printer's ornament, 25 plates, engraved head- and tail-pieces. Contemporary half sheep over marbled boards, spine with raised bands in six compartments, compartments once with gilt morocco labels (now almost entirely lost), red speckled edges, plain endpapers. Small chip to frontispiece outer margin, binding quite superficially worn, some very minor worming at inner margin, but nonetheless a very good, bright and tight copy. FIRST EDITION of Hooper's extensive history of the English Civil War, up until the restoration of Charles II. illustrated with full-page plates, many of which depict naval and land battles. Scarce, the OCLC traces only eleven copies held institutionally. A very nice, complete copy as issued. REFERENCES: ESTC T73385; Lowndes 1109.
