Jacobus Lydia began his education at the Latin School in the Rue Neuve in Belgium under Antonius Aemilius, after which he studied theology at the University of Leiden. At the age of 23 he became pastor in Bleskensgraaf. In 1642 he was nominated by Jacob Cats to go to England to mediate between the authoritarian King Karel I and his parliament. This title was reprinted in 1662 and 1750. The title was in the second edition: vrolicke uren des doodts ofte der wijsen van vermaeck. Some illustrations are alike, others not.
