Laid in is an engraved presentation slip, "With the Compliments of Mrs. Joel Parker and family." Provenance: Signature on front endpaper of Murrell Dobbins (1843-1917), a Pemberton, NJ native who trained as a bricklayer and went on to become one of Philadelphia's leading builders. He fostered mechanical trade schools, resulting in the 1906 opening of the Philadelphia Trade School for Boys, later Dobbins Vocational-Technical Institute. Joel Parker served two terms as Governor of New Jersey, 1863-1866 and 1872-1875.
