Wenn in der Alltagssprache überhaupt noch von Sünde die Rede ist, dann doch zumeist in verkürzter und missverständlicher Art und Weise.In ihr mischen sich im Umgang mit Sünde oft Desinteresse und Skepsis und einegenuin christliche Bedeutung lässt sich nur noch am Rande erkennen.In der Theologie bemüht man sich daher seit der Aufklärung um ein neuesSündenverständnis, das neuzeitliche Missverständnisse und Vorbehalte überwindensoll. Doch scheint seit der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts auch hier imwesentlichen Desinteresse Einzug in die Theologie erhalten zu haben und so spielensich heute die Diskussionen um den Sündenbegriff allenfalls am Rande destheologischen Diskurses ab. Dies ist jedoch insofern erstaunlich, weil dieSündenlehre seit dem Beginn der Reformation ein wesentlicher Bestandteil desevangelischen Selbstverständnisses gewesen ist. So bestimmte Martin Luther 1532 inseiner Vorlesung über den Psalm 51 den homo peccator und den deus iustificans alsden eigentlichen Gegenstand der Theologie ( subjectum Theologiae ). DieFundamentalunterscheidung zwischen Glaube und Sünde bildet in der Reformationden anthropologischen Ausgangspunkt, von dem aus eine evangelische Theologieallererst möglich wird. Es ließe sich daher fragen, ob eine Vernachlässigung derSündenlehre nicht zu einem Verlust des Gegenstandes der evangelischen Theologieführen muss, da das dialektische Verhältnis zwischen dem sündigen Menschen unddem rechtfertigenden Gott im Akt der Rechtfertigung nicht mehr angemessen zur Sprache gebracht werden kann. Für weite Kreise der aktuellen evangelischenTheologie wäre die Rede von der Sünde wohl ein Zugewinn, dessen Umgang sie erstwieder erlernen müsste.
