Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good binding. Octavo. xii, 286 pp., frontis, illus. First edition (presumed). As issued, in publisher's cloth with title vignette in orange on the front cover. Light toning to the binding; spine a trifle sunned; gift inscription on a bookplate mounted on the front pastedown else contents clean. A lovely volume with a tipped color frontispiece along with dozens of in-text illustrationsmost are full page. This title from an era when Harcourt, Brace and Co. was erratic in their practices of identifying or not identifying first editions. It is presumed to be a first as Harcourt was somewhat more diligent about identifying reprints and there is no such identification here.
