Kunstenaar Jef Geys (1934-2018) gaf bijna dertig jaar les in de Rijksmiddelbareschool van het Kempense dorp Balen. Hij deed dat eigenzinnig en bracht re le kunst in de klas en de school. Collega-leraars, leerlingen en vrienden vertelden hun herinneringen, toonden hun unieke souvenirs. Zij spelen de hoofdrol in dit boek, in woord en beeld. Tegelijk word gezocht naar sporen van de leraar en de school in het oeuvre van de kunstenaar. [.] Some day, all this will have to be developed, carefully printed, fixed." Many of the buildings, places and people in Jef Van Eynde's photographs are no longer part of the city of Ostend.
