The book plate, which is in all copies, and serves as a colophon of sorts, is inscribed "Allan Covici from Uncle Robert". Bookplate has become detached and is now laid in. Ink from Duncan's signature has transferred lightly to the half-title, one comb has broken from the binding, a light paperclip mark on the front cover, else about Fine. A lovely copy of this children's book of sorts profusely illustrated by Jess. A scarce book signed, and this to Covici who was a Berkeley librarian, noted collector and active particpant in the San Francisco gay culture of the 60's. ANACAPA A40. Signed.…

Quarto (32cm); orange card portfolio wrappers with printed paper title label; sewn sheets laid in; [23]pp; three text illustrations. Fine (see note below). Publisher's prospectus laid in. A Duncan rarity. A posthumous collection, published three years after Duncan's death. The portfolio was sold to benefit the Press in Tuscany Alley, the student fine press workshop at San Francisco State University; Peter Koch, director of the program, oversaw the printing. NOTE: the original drawing has been removed by a previous owner and has been professionally matted and framed. As it's an attractive framing job, we've kept it thus; but the portfolio may be purchased with the drawing unframed and laid in as originally issued if that's the buyer's preference. Signed.…
