Le terme "taupin" serait une allusion au travail souterrain de la larve car au XVe siècle, les taupins étaient les mineurs qui avaient pour rôle de saper les murs des villes que l'on assiégeait. En Angleterre notre taupin est connu sous le nom de "cl…ick beetles" qui fait référence au bruit que fait l'animal lorsque, retourné sur le dos, il se détend brusquement avec un "clic" audible. L'ouvrage contient 56 espèces d'Elateridae, 9 espèces d'Eucnemidae et 8 espèces de Throscidae, toutes recensées en Corse. This sixth volume of the series is dedicated to the wireworms and two close families. The term "wireworm" would be an allusion to the underground work of the larva because in the 15th century, wireworms were the miners whose role was to undermine the walls of the cities that were besieged. In England our wireworm is known as "click beetles" which refers to the noise the animal makes when, turned on its back, it suddenly relaxes with an audible "click". The book contains 56 species of Elateridae, 9 species of Eucnemidae, and 8 species of Throscidae, all recorded from Corse. Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.
