In seinen Texten werden die Persönlichkeit, aber auch die Zeit, in der lebte, deutlich - und damit seine auch rassistische und koloniale Perspektive von Europa aus auf die Welt. So offenbart sich eine Welt und ein vielseitiges Leben: Berichte von einem Besuch im indischen Punjab beim Maharadscha von Patiala, wie von einer Reise nach Sulawesi.
