Hardcover. Condition: Good. Bound in full contemporary vellum, the cover shows standard soiling and discoloration. Binding coming away from the textblock at the top hinge. Minor writing and owner marks on the endpapers. Textblock is solid and square, pages tanned and foxed. An exceptionally scarce copy of Johan Locken's history of Sweden, in Latin. Locken was a German jurist, historian, academic, and librarian.

Locken was an academic and librarian at the University of Uppsala. He wrote an early history of Sweden in 1647. This book was intended as a supplement to his history and deals with the medieval culture of Sweden. Refs: Brunet III, page 1136 note. Warmholtz 1416. Hesse 1263.

Copertina rigida. Condition: buone. Testo latino. Cm.12x7. Pg.334, (2). Genuina legatura coeva, in piena pergamena semirigida, con titoli calligrafati al dorso a quattro nervi. Minima, ininfluente abrasione al margine esterno delle ultime tre carte. Importante studio di diritto marittimo del giureconsulto tedesco, ma nato in Svezia, Johannes Loccenius, nome latinizzato di Johan Locken (Itzehoe, 13 marzo 1598 ? 27 luglio 1677) che fu docente e rettore alla facoltà di Uppsala. Eckstück, da unten, bzw. auch seitlich unbedruckt. Rücken und Deckel mit vereinzelten Wurmlöchern und -gängen. Insgesamt leicht berieben und kaum bestoßen, innen fast durchweg sauber, drei alte Vorbesitzereinträge auf dem ersten Titelblatt, zahlreiche Unterstreichungen, sowie einige handschriftliche, ältere Randglossen. Diese Ausgabe, ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel wissenschaftlicher Kooperation seiner Zeit, in der "Republik der Gelehrten" ("Res publica literaria") wurde erst nach Elmenhorsts Tod von Johannes Loccenius (d.i. Johan Locken) veröffentlicht. Er selbst blieb beschieden im Hintergrund, seinen zweiseitigen Nachruf auf den verstorbenen Freund findet man ganz am Schluß vor den umfangreichen Registern. Alle Teile mit separaten Titelblättern, die bis auf Cornelis Martini alle Mitarbeiter auch namentlich nennen. Wenige Seiten fehlpaginert.
