Former owner bookplate to the front free endpaper, and a small area of abrasion to the rear endpaper from where a second plate appears to have been removed. A very good copy in very good non-price-clipped dust wrapper featuring an additional O'Connor illustration. Sixty-one poems, plus an index of first lines.

Slight foxing of fore edge; otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by text figure vignettes, including title page vignette. Decorated by publisher's device on verso of title. Nature and pastoral poems of John Clare (1797-1864), selected for young readers by John Powell, who was Reference Librarian at Northampton Public Library, and in charge of the Clare Collection there. The selection is introduced by the poet, Edmund Blunden (1896-1974), an editor of, and authority on, Clare. Illustrated by the artist and wood engraver John O'Connor (1912-2004).
