Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Nice original vintage 1930 copy of, "Chemical Magic." The book is overall in very good condition with just some minor signs of wear and age. It comes in its original dust jacket which is also in very good condition with some light foxing, a few tiny chips and tea…rs, and some other minor wear. The jacket comes in a protective removable Brodart wrapper. The actual orange decorative covers of the book only have some minor wear. The binding is good and sound. There is an old oval ex-libris stamp of Harry B. Oestreich, Esq. to the front pastedown. The book measures approximately 8 1/4 inches by 5 5/8 inches and is 107 pages long with 4 black and white plates (one of which is double-paged). Some of the chapters include: The History of Magic, Chemical Fire Mysteries, Chemical Inks and Paints, Chemical Spiritualistic Effects, Liquid Chemical Effects, Magical Monologues &c.

Contact seller5-star sellerFirst edition of this specialized instructional work. Octavo, original publisher's pictorial cloth, top stain orange, frontispiece, illustrated with photographs and diagrams. From the collection of magician Oscar Teale with his book plate to the front pastedown. Oscar Teale was a magician, lecturer, and historian of magic whose…work bridged performance, scholarship, and the preservation of conjuring as a serious cultural practice. He served as the private secretary to Harry Houdini during the final years of Houdiniâs life, a position that granted him direct access to the magicianâs professional correspondence, research, and anti-spiritualist investigations, and later informed Tealeâs influential role in preserving and interpreting Houdiniâs legacy. In very good condition. John D. Lippy, Jr. was an American educator and writer whose work focused on the intersection of chemistry, pedagogy, and popular demonstration. Best known for Chemical Magic, Lippy sought to translate fundamental chemical principles into controlled, visually engaging experiments that could function both as classroom instruction and as performance, emphasizing safety, clarity of explanation, and reproducibility. Framed at the intersection of science education and conjuring, the book emphasizes clarity, safety, and repeatability, presenting experiments that rely on accessible materials while illustrating fundamental reactions such as color change, gas production, and combustion.
