First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. John Hamburger (illustrator). 1st Edition. First Edition (Number Line to 1). Once listed, this will be the Only signed copy of the book for sale anywhere on the Internet. The signed inscription is on the front end paper. It reads 'For Kevin, Love, Ann McGovern.' The book is in very nice condition. You can see the turquoise covers. They are very clean. The top edges and corners are in excellent shape. The spine ends look very good. The shiny blue lettering on the spine is nicely bright (I had to use a phone can to take that picture because the scanner wasn't properly representing the color of the lettering). The page edges look very clean. The spine has a forward lean, but the book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout, and nicely tight covers as well. The covers go very slightly downward on the front from the spine toward the middle and then flatten out the rest of the way. The reverse is the case on the rear cover where they go very slightly upward from the spine and then flatten out. The covers are not bowed, they lie flat at their middle edges. The interior of the book is in terrific condition. All the pages lie perfectly flat. They are exceptionally clean. I'm not finding any soiling at all. I'm also not finding any creasing. The white inside covers and end papers are also perfectly clean. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. 'The text is beautifully illustrated with John Hamburger's full-color art.' There are illustrations on almost all of the pages and they are all in excellent condition. The dust jacket is in very solid shape. You can see it in the first few photos. It has only minor wear, a little crease at the front bottom corner, a little scuffing at and around the top edge of the spine, a light crease off part of the top edge of the rear cover, a couple of other tiny scuffs. But as you can see, the jacket presents quite nicely. It is very clean. I don't see any soiling. The flaps are also very clean. They too are in very good condition with just a thin crease off the bottom edge of the front flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. Ann McGovern became interested in whales when, sailing among the Galapagos Islands, she spotted seven whales, spouting and breaching.' I have been fascinated ever since,' she writes. At the end of the book there is a glossary of whale words. 'Little Whale is the story of one humpback whale from the time of her birth (when she weighs almost a ton) to adulthood (five years later). Young readers will discover many fascinating facts about the humpback whale in this is easy-to-read text. They will find out where whales live, how whales find their food, how they breathe the air they need as mammals, and how they sing underwater.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
