Condition: Very Good. 6 1/2" X 4 1/2"; 1 pages; Excellent 19th Century Hand Colored steel engraving depicting women and children of foot surrounding George Washington and his soldiers (on horseback) seeking protection. Beautifully engraved by John Rogers (1800? - 1882) after a painting by John McNevin. Image measures 6 1/2" X 4 1/4" (14" x 11" matted). Clean sharp nicely colored image, matted in white stock with clear mylar. Trained in Dublin, Ireland, John McNevin did a series of paintings of the 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition, then served as a pictorial reporter for Illustrated London News during the Crimean War and eventually immigrated to New York where he was an in-house artist and illustrator for Harper's Weekly.

Covers are clean and intact overall but have a possibly rebacked or repaired spine, possible repair to front and back inner hinges, and slight bumping and wear to extremities. A Very Good copy. A collection of prose and verse paying homage to the classic alcoholic drink, ale. Authored by Barry Gray and John Savage. Printed in the front is a Prefatory Letter from Gray and Savage to Joseph B. Taylor of New York and William H. Taylor of Albany that gives some background information about this book. Contents are titled as follows: "A Runlet of Ale" by Gray, "Ale: Antiquarian, Historical and Literary" by Savage, and "Albany Ale: An Account of the Rise and Progress of the Brewery of John Taylor & Sons, Illustrated, With a Biographical Sketch of the Founder.".
