The name of Harley Quinn hides the identity of one of the few living poets whose work was included in the Oxford Book of English Verse. Here he displays a skill and versatility enlivened by a spice of humour. The range is wide from light verse to deep and real poetry, and should have a great attraction for readers of all tastes. The illustrations are full of pictorial interest and shrewd observation of men and manners. Miss Johnston combines sophistication and simplicity both in subject matter and manner. The book is a remarkable achievement and will have a great appeal to children, but an appeal that will extend into the adult world. RRR 6.
