Blue cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on the front and spine, nicking to the cloth along edges, corner tips, and at the head and foot of the spine. Spine faded with the gold lettering rubbed and dimmed; fading extends slightly onto the top edge of the front board. Binding is tight. Light soiling along the edges of the text block. Pages lightly toned but otherwise unmarked. From the library of psychiatrist Jurgen Ruesch (1909-1995), with his stamp "Jurgen Ruesch / Dr. med." on the front free endpaper. Ruesch trained in medicine at the University of Zurich and went on to a distinguished career at the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute of the University of California, San Francisco; he is best known to historians of psychiatry and communication theory for his collaboration with Gregory Bateson on "Communication: The Social Matrix of Psychiatry" (1951), a foundational text of the Palo Alto group on communication and family systems. " Psychotherapie der Neurosen " Thieme Leipzig, 1926 , " Die Suggestivtherapie " Leipzig Thieme 1927 . Entzug des Doktortitels 1939 . Emigrierte in die USA / NY . (Ernst Jolowicz was born in Posen in 1882. He graduated from the University of Leipzig and practiced psychiatry. He was married to Hedwig Meischneider; the couple had a son, Franz, born in 1919, and divorced later. He then married Almeda Redman, a social worker. Ernst Jolowicz was an outspoken opponent of the Nazi movement and was forced to flee Germany after Adolf Hitler came to power. He continued his anti-Nazi activities with a series of radio broadcasts in Strasburg from 1936 through 1939. In 1941, he immigrated to the USA, where he first served as a school psychiatrist in Warwick, NY, before setting up a private practice in Manhattan.
