Jonas was born in London, and lived for a while in France and Germany, where he had gone seeking a healthier climate. Upon returning to London he took a position in his father's tobacco importing business. As a member of that firm, he traveled to the United States on business, eventually becoming associated with the Henderson (KY) Journal; and, shortly before World War I became editor of the Louisville Herald Newspaper. He wrote several nonfiction books and this novel.
