Lanna of Prague around 1868 by his close friend Josef Manes (1820 - 1871) - the latter considered by many to be the most important Czech artist of the 19th century. He not only painted in every genre, but also actively participated in various literary and charitable societies, designing uniforms for athletic organizations, etc. Adalbert Freiherr von Lanna (1836-1909) was a prominent industrialist, founder of the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague, and a prolific collector of "all branches of artistic craft from antiquity to the 19th century," including books, paintings and engravings, glass and ceramics and metal objects of art, and so on. To make them accessible to the public, he would often loan them to museums and libraries. The collections would be dissolved at the end of his life and after his death, through ten auction sales between 1909 and 1912, which would bring six million Austrian crowns (roughly equivalent to hundreds of millions today).…
