Ah, Histoire de ma vie (History of My Life), better known to the world as Casanova's Memoirs, is a classic of European literature and a treasure trove of 18th-century social history. Written by the notorious adventurer and self-proclaimed ladies' man Giacomo Casanova, it's a whirlwind journey through his travels, escapades, and, of course, love affairs. Despite its controversial subject matter, Casanova's Memoirs is a literary masterpiece. Casanova's writing is witty, engaging, and often surprisingly philosophical. He paints vivid portraits of the people he meets and the places he visits, transporting the reader to another time and place. A faded binding but good reading copy with drawings by Vincente Minelli.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Vincente Minelli (illustrator). About the author >>> Giacomo Girolamo Casanova (2 April 1725 - 4 June 1798) was an Italian adventurer and author from the Republic of Venice. His autobiography, Histoire de ma vie (Story of My Life), is regarded as one of the most authentic sources of the customs and norms of European social life during the 18th century. As was not uncommon at the time, Casanova, depending on circumstances, used more or less fictitious names such as baron or count of Farussi (the name of his mother) or Chevalier de Seingalt (pronounced Saint-Galle, as in French). He often signed his works Jacques Casanova de Seingalt after he began writing in French following his second exile from Venice. He has become so famous for his often complicated and elaborate affairs with women that his name is now synonymous with "womanizer". He associated with European royalty, popes and cardinals, along with luminaries such as Voltaire, Goethe and Mozart. He spent his last years in Bohemia as a librarian in Count Waldstein's household, where he also wrote the story of his life. This edition of his memoirs is edited by Joeph Monet with Vincent Minelli providing the illustrations. Faults? the dj worn at head & tail of spine, torn upper right corner (see the pics), plastic protection now. 290pp with full pg illust (bw), Size: 22.5cm. Book.

The Borane, Carborane, Carbocation Continuum explores the emerging understanding of the similarities of properties and behavior shared by these electron-deficient species. Based on the work presented at a trailblazing symposium held at the Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute of the University of Southern California, it brings together the contributions of distinguished scientists from around the world, including Nobel Prize winners George A. Olah and William N. Lipscomb, to illustrate the results of research on the structures and bonding characteristics of boranes, carboranes, and carbocations. As electron-deficient compounds find a place in today's high-field NMR systems and other cutting-edge areas, this unique volume contains important information for advanced students as well as professionals working in organic, inorganic, or physical chemistry, with sections on: Patterns of structure in boranes and carboranes -including vertex homogeneity, boron cluster patterns, and seco-systematization of boranes and heteroboranesThe carborane -carbocation continuum -from boron super-electrophiles and their carbocation analogs to cage systemsUntangling molecular structures -mechanistic patterns in carborane reactions, advances in metallacarborane sandwich chemistry, and other topicsNew species of boranes and carboranes -such as isoelectronic borane, hydrocarbon, and carbocation metal complexes, and cyclic organohydroborate anions.
